    Product Review
"Compared with the first edition, this edition expands upon the data about the technical aspects of bone densitometry, the skeletal anatomy involved, and the statistical concepts of precision and accuracy as it relates to densitometry. In this edition, Dr. Bonnick also explores and evaluates clinical guidelines for selecting patients on whom to do bone density testing. The book discusses fracture risk assessment, disease states which can affect bone mass, and specifics regarding therapeutic interventions. Each chapter is an excellent review. The author is able to explain the necessary statistics involved in a way in which they make sense to the reader. The appendixes are an essential resource for anyone working with bone densitometry. This is an invaluable resource for each and every physician and technologist involved with bone densitometry, specialists and primary care providers alike. It is an invaluable resource and stands alone as the premier textbook of bone densitometry principles and application. The updates in the second edition make it an even more comprehensive source of easily accessible information for the reader."-Score: 100. Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal

"The second edition. . .is an expansion of her highly regarded 1st edition, which has provided the bone densitometry community with simply the best, most accurate, and most precisely written resource in our field. Once again Dr. Bonnick has applied her very careful and exact scientific approaches to expanding and improving on her widely regarded initial text. . .should be read by all physicians who are involved in the application of bone densitometry. . .The management of osteoporosis is truly moving into primary care. Hence, primary care physicians who either order or perform bone densitometry should read this text. The subspecialists who will manage the more complex osteoporotic cases should read it as well.:-Foreword by Paul D. Miller, MD, FACP, Colorado Center for Bone Research, Lakewood, CO

"a MUST HAVE booka 410 page resource that you will call on often" - Norland News

    Product Description
This fully updated and dramatically expanded edition will allow family physicians and specialists to fully understand not only what they need to do, but also why. New to this edition-over half the book-are discussions of the clinical guidelines for selecting patients for densitometry measurements, various questionnaires and indices that have been developed to help patients identify themselves as candidates for bone mass measurements, and specific densitometry applications of diagnosis, fracture risk prediction, and monitoring changes in bone density. Updated material includes an expanded review of the effects of diseases and drugs on bone density, new standardization formulas for the hip subregions and forearm, statistical devices necessary to "test the test," and guidance on how to do a short-term precision study and apply the result to clinical practice. An accompanying CD-ROM contains a Precision Calculator, a Statistical Confidence Calculator for Measured Change in BMD, OST Nomograms, a Patient Risk Factor Questionnaire, and a CME review, which, if successfully completed, can lead to 30 hours of AMA Category I continuing education credit.

    Customer Reviews & Comments
This review is from: Bone Densitometry in Clinical Practice: Application and Interpretation (Current Clinical Practice Series) (Current Clinical Practice Series) (Hardcover) This book is a good reference as well as learning tool. It includes many glossy prints of actual bone density scans with descriptions and instructions for interpretation. It has a good section on identifying artifacts and evaluating the adequacy of the scans. There's not much description of secondary causes of osteoporosis but that information can be obtained elsewhere. In all, a good learning and reference book, esp. for physicians.
